Incredible Black Seaweed-Decorated Yellowware Bowl

Description:

Just WOW! Measuring 7.75" in diameter and 3.75" high, this lovely yellow ware mixing bowl is quite possibly the only black seaweed decorated bowl we have seen. Long stretches of dendritic decoration adorn the central white band. Often referred to as mochaware, pieces with this type of decoration date to the mid-1800's. Black decoration rivals red in terms of being the rarest color used. Blue decoration is definitely the most commonly found on bowls. Green decoration follows blue. When black decoration is found, it is usually found in blobs and not highly detailed. Thus not only is the color used on this bowl unusual but the decoration couldn't get much more detailed. Long stretches of black seaweed-like decoration accentuates the center band. The base bowl is a rich buttery yellow. An extraordinarily fat top rolled rim and bottom rim create even more charm. This bowl has all the bells and whistles and certainly has quiet personality. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. They just don't get any better than this and it is a true "must" for any yellow ware or mochaware collector. Please see our listings for other seaweed decorated pieces and more bowls.
