With its combination of the scalloped top edge, rounded panels, and wheat and clover embossing, this is a highly decorated ironstone sugar bowl in a very pleasing pattern. This pattern is referred to as "Wheat and Clover." Produced by Turner and Tomkinson in the late 1860's,. it is a pattern seen on several different forms and was produced by several different potters. It blends well with the ever popular Wheat or Ceres pattern. They have the same curved panels and elegant lines so often the pieces are mixed. Whether you are focusing on a few patterns or simply collecting functional and beautiful pieces, this is a fabulous sugar bowls. For some reason, sugar bowls are not as frequently found as one would think. Standing 8.25" high to the top of the finial, the base is 5" in diameter and then greater in the middle due to the slightly bulbous shape. Measuring 7" from handle to handle, it has good overall presence. Brilliant white in excellent condition with no damage and no staining. Bottom maker's stamp.
