Just WOW! This matched pair of hexagonal ironstone compotes has a super shallow bowl. Measuring only 9" across at the widest, these would have been used for small fruit such as blueberries or strawberries. The bowl is so shallow that very little of anything else could be held. Standing 6" high, they have a nice sweet presence. The foot is slightly scalloped which is an odd twist as the bowl has a slightly severe flare. The fluting or panels extend from the base and follow the bowl to the outer edge of the bowl. Both compotes are in excellent condition with no chips cracks, or repairs. This is such a unique and wonderful opportunity as we have never seen another compote such as this much less a matched pair. How extraordinary! Marked Anthony Shaw and Son on the bottom of each. These date to the mid to late 1800's and exhibit a brilliant white glaze. Again, they are simply amazing as they are unlike any other shape or anything else we have seen and just truly incredible as a matched pair. Priced as a pair.
