Fabulous central, highly detailed horseshoe anchors the mounting of this sizable fob. It measures a full inch long and inch wide. Edge of the mounting has a nice smooth scallop with light engraving. Mounting is 9 karat gold.
In keeping with most Victorian fobs, this is a "spinner" style. It has a rich, deep green stone with red specks called a bloodstone on one side. The other side is comprised of a carnelian in a deep orangey red. The stones are set in a lovely gold setting with full hallmarks.
Hallmarks denote production in the mid-1880's.
Stones and mounting are in excellent condition. No chips or cracks to stones. Spinner section works well.

9kt gold became all the rage during this time as it was more affordable for the upper middle class, and it allowed them to denote their rising status in society. The vast majority of gold jewelry found during this period is of this karat content. Earrings, bangles, and chains were now being worn during the day and were no longer reserved for evening. Women of this period were no different than women today; each enjoyed her own style and her pieces were special and significant to her. Her personality emanated from her jewelry.
