Truly unlike any other piece of yellowware we have seen. Measuring 5.5" in diameter and 1" deep, we have not seen this form whether decorated or not. On top of its rare shape, it has rare dark navy slip used to create the expertly detailed seaweed decoration. With such fine detail to the decoration, this had to have been produced by an expert potter. Cornflower blue bands outline the bottom rim and top rim to accentuate the darkness of the navy slip. The buttery yellow base piece was most likely crafted as a child's dish. Due to its intended use, it is no wonder we have not seen another like it. We did purchase one with three cornflower blue bands from the same estate which is the same form but only slightly larger. It does make us wonder if the potter was a family member and made different sizes as the need arose. No condition issues. Yellowware pieces with seaweed decoration are sometimes referred to as mochaware. Whether you are a collector of mochaware or simply hunting for rare yellowware forms, this is a true must.
