Measuring 5.5" high and 4.5" in diameter, this chocolate glazed yellowware canning jar has a simplistic shape with crude initials. "CD" is roughly etched into the side of the jar which was obviously done freehand and by the potter. The straight sides and shorter stature, this is a very sweet piece. Canning jars are awesome to use as vases or hold utensils in the kitchen or bathroom. Due to the weighted bottom, it does not turn over easily. Pristine condition with no cracks or chips...just the normal roughness at the top rim. Wax was used to seal the jars in the 1800's. When the wax was cut off, the top rim would receive some damage and result in being rough. Practically all canning jars have this roughness. Canning jars have a special place in our hearts as we love using them for wildflowers, and this one is particularly special as it is the only piece we have with any kind of signature. The crude "CD" makes this a must for any collector.
