Super Cool One-Of-A-Kind Ironstone Colander

Description:

What a nifty piece!! Unlike anything else we have seen, this wonderful bowl-style ironstone colander is just fabulous. A nice hole pattern graces the bottom of the bowl. Two additional holes are near the top rolled rim. A string or thin piece of wire would have been threaded through these two holes and then used to hang the colander on the kitchen wall. Bowl colanders such as this with a thick arced foot and fat rolled top rim can be seen in yellowware from the same time frame but we have never seen another in ironstone. It is very heavy duty and substantial making it somewhat of a mystery as it may have been specifically produced for commercial purposes. Since no other colander is known to us, this may have been made for a specific person or shop. Measuring 10.5" in diameter and 5.5" high, the colander is a wonderful, useful size. It has no damage, no staining, and just a bit of normal wear. No maker's mark. Beautifully white. A fabulous addition to any collection and certainly something for the advanced collector.
