Exceptional Bulbous Plain Ironstone Foot Bath

Description:

WOW! Ironstone foot baths are super scarce and considered to be the prize of any ironstone collection. Whether it is gracing the center of your dining room table or the centerpiece of your sideboard, it is sure to be a conversation piece. If you are lucky enough to even find a foot bath then it will most likely have embossed banding from top to bottom and will not be simple and plain such as this one. This is only the second plain one we have ever seen and this one is much larger than the other one we saw. Measuring 13.5" x 18" and 8.25" deep, it is a grand piece. Not only is it in excellent condition with no staining as it has been professionally cleaned but it is also marked. Foot baths are never marked and this one bears the mark "Parisian Porcelain Henry Alcock." This was a mark used in 1861 and denoted his "Plain Uplift" pattern. Alcock was a prolific potter in England and produced numerous serving pieces in this pattern. We have never seen another foot bath in this pattern. With its slightly bulbous shape and plain but lightly detailed handles, this is perfect for any collection or home. Although it can give a very contemporary vibe, it certainly has all the elegance of 1800's England. Absolutely no excuses need to be made for this piece.
