Stunning Black Decorated Yellow Ware Pitcher - Trees

Description:

Standing 7.5" high and measuring 9" from spout to back of handle, this is a generous size yellowware pitcher with incredible decoration. Sometimes still referred to as seaweed-decorated, this tree decoration was created by the same technique. Black decoration is one of the scarcest as blue is the most commonly found. Medium width white bands outlined with rust bands form the decoration on top and bottom of the central wide white band. Black trees done in graduating size are found on both sides of the pitcher. Professionally cleaned to show the wonderful buttery yellow base pitcher. Its bulbous shape combined with the numerous banding and exceptional black tree decoration create an absolutely rare and exceptional piece. No condition issues. In all our years, this is the first pitcher we have seen in yellowware with black trees done in such a manner. The few other examples we have seen with black decoration have been in thick blobs encircling the top and done in a more traditional horizontal seaweed fashion. With its decoration and shape, it dates to the early to mid-1800's. Truly something for the advanced collector or for someone wanting one of the best yellow ware pitchers we have had.
